What a time we live in
“Nothing is so painful to the human mind as a great and sudden change.” The wise words of Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, author of Frankenstein.
At the turn of 2019, millions of people were excited about what 2020 had in store for them. People and businesses set goals and targets for 2020 and beyond.
Little did strategists know what the crystal ball had in store for 2020. It turned into a year that will go down in history books as the year that forced leaders of organisations to reform their way of thinking about business and how it is conducted.
We faced one of the biggest forced change processes known to humankind. Although painful, one soon realised that for survival, one had to consider the words of Darwin:
“It is not the strongest or the most intelligent who will survive but those who can best manage change”.
Different thinking was necessary to get your work done and to survive financially.
Delivering training and development in a different way
Optimum Learning Technologies had to look at teaching methodologies through different eyes and had to rapidly adapt the way it delivered its training and development programmes.
Some of the unique ways in which Optimum dealt with the changes included :
- Face-to-face training was stopped with immediate effect. Optimum Learning Technologies changed gears and offered its learnerships, skills programmes and short courses virtually, through a change in delivery methodology.
- Newly developed sales short courses were delivered virtually to groups of sales representatives. Courses included:
- Business Acumen
- Personal Productivity
- Selling and Negotiation
- Written Communication
- Kimberly-Clark started their first NQF 5 Manufacturing Learnership making use of a hybrid methodology.
- But the highlight of 2020 must be the Pioneer Online graduation. In August 2020 83 learners from Pioneer Foods (now part of PepsiCo) successfully completed learnerships that included Plant Baking, Production Technology, Supervisory Development and Manufacturing Management and were looking forward to celebrating their success at a graduation. COVID-19 rules did not allow for a face-to-face graduation ceremony, so Pioneer and Optimum put together a beautiful online celebration. One of the highlights of this function was witnessing first-hand the impact that the training had had on the lives of the learners.
It was possible because brave people made bold decisions and lived up to the words of Albert Einstein:
“The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking”.
We thank all the bravehearts who lead this business through the discomfort of change.
